A friend of mine suggested that I enter a card into the Sunny Challenges & Creations Shaped Card challenge. If you would like to have a look here is the link http://sunnychallenges.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/sc-08613.html I have never made a shaped card before so this was certainly a challenge for me and way out of my comfort zone but I think it turned out ok. Well not bad for a first try lol.
This DSP is from the latest Seasonal Catalogue which is available to order from the end of next week. I used one of our new colours Smoky Slate for the card base which I cut out using the largest die from our Framelits Window Frame Collection. I folded the card stock in half and put the folded end just below the top of the die so that it remained joined. I then cut a little off the bottom to make it stand up which is what we want a card to do instead of falling over all the time lol. I sponged around the edge of the base in Coastal Cabana. Then I chose the next smallest die and used it on the new Winter Frost Specialty Designer Paper which has 2 different patterns in foil, then I chose the next smallest to cut out a Whisper White piece. I wrapped Silver 1/8" Ribbon around the piece several times and tied it into a knot at the front, then I used the gorgeous Calm Christmas bird stamp and heat embossed it in silver and fussy cut it out and adhered to the Whisper White piece with Stampin' Dimensionals. I used our new Simply Pressed Clay to make a small flower and used a Coastal Cabana Marker to colour it and then covered it in Crystal Effects to give it a nice sheen and used my trusty glue gun to stick it onto the knot in the ribbon. I added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel to the bird to give him a shiny eye and stamped Merry Christmas with our Teeny Tiny Sentiments stamps and punched it out with the Word Window Punch.
I just love how the embossed bird shines so brightly so gorgeous. I hope everyone enjoys this card it has made me want to experiment with other shaped cards now. Have a great weekend
Cheers Teena
Teena, this is GORGEOUS!! You're right - the embossed bird is stunning. So glad you stepped outside your comfort zone (I know, I find 'shaped' cards a bit scary, too!), and played along with us at Sunny Challenges & Creations this week!
ReplyDeleteTeena, I love your card. The embossed bird does look so gorgeous and the papers compliment the image perfectly. I have found it quite fun to play with this idea of a shaped card. Thanks for joining us at Sunny Challenges and Creations.
